Franceschini Measuring & Fitting Guide

Getting the right fit on Franceschini boots is essential — especially at this price point. Here's how to measure correctly.

What You'll Need

A tailor's measuring tape (soft/flexible), your riding breeches, and the socks you normally ride in. It helps to have someone assist you with the measurements.

How to Measure for Riding Boots

Stand upright without shoes, legs straight and slightly apart. Wear your riding breeches and riding socks.

You need three measurements:

1. Shoe Size — Franceschini uses standard European (EU) sizing. If you're unsure of your EU size, contact us for sizing help.

2. Calf Circumference — Measure around the widest part of your calf. Keep the tape snug but not tight.

3. Height — Measure from the ground up to the point just below the back of your knee (where the top of the boot will sit). This measurement is taken without shoes and excludes the heel.

Once you have your shoe size and calf circumference, use the size chart for the specific boot length you're looking at (Short, Short Medium, Tall Medium, or Tall) to find the right calf size (XXS to XL). The height column will confirm whether that boot length suits your leg.

See the Franceschini Riding Boots Size Chart for the full measurement tables.

How to Measure for Half Chaps

For Franceschini half chaps, you need four measurements:

B — Height: Measure from the ankle bone to just below the knee on the outside of the leg.

G — Calf: Measure around the widest part of your calf.

F — Entrance: Measure around the top of the chap opening (just below the knee).

A — Ankle: Measure around your ankle at the narrowest point above the ankle bone.

Tips for Getting the Best Fit

New leather boots will stretch. Franceschini boots are made from premium Italian leather which moulds to your leg over time. A snug fit when new is normal — the leather will soften and give slightly with wear.

Measure both legs. Most people have slight differences between their left and right leg. If there's a noticeable difference, size to the larger measurement.

Consider when you ride. Legs can swell slightly during exercise and in warmer weather. If you're between sizes, this is worth factoring in.

The shaft length matters. Franceschini boots come in four lengths. The right length depends on your leg — refer to the height column in the size chart. A boot that's too tall will dig behind the knee; too short and it won't offer proper support.
